OUR SIMPLE TREE & HOW WE DECORATE

Today I wanted to share with you how I decorate my tree.  Last year a lot of our Christmas decorations had to be thrown away because they were almost 20 years old and have seen better days.  We also got a new tree.  Our old tree is also 20 years old.  It’s still in pretty good shape but it’s small and we’ve been wanting to get a larger tree for a few years.  One day we were decorating our old tree when half our lights blew out.  Since they were so old we decided to buy new lights at Target.  While at Target, they were having an awesome sale on Christmas trees and I was sucked in.

I found my tree.  A beautiful 7.5 foot tree and we got it for a deal.  The tree retailed for $130.00 but we got it for $61.00!  Yup $61 Bucks..  How?  The day we went to target they were having a sale on their trees, with that they also had a sale that if you buy season decor items you get an additional $25 off your purchase of $75 or more.  So we got our lights (also on sale) and the tree and boom savings!  I’m really happy with my purchase and plan on having this tree for a long time.  Maybe not 20 years long but close to it lol.

Decorating our tree is a family thing.  Since we now have three trees (yes three), today I will be focusing on how we decorate our new family tree.  Decorating our tree is pretty simple.  We usually decorate together as a family each one of us hangs our ornament and we string lights and ribbons.  We always keep our trees simple and traditional.  I absolutely love how we decorated the tree together and pray that this tradition will be continued when my girls start their own family.

Since some of our store bought tree decorations are gone, I want to purchase new ornaments and ribbons.  We do have a some surviving ornaments that we DIY’ed and some family ornaments that are still in great shape (and aren’t going anywhere) and we are happy with what we have.  As for my smaller tree, I’m still keeping it and it will now be in our dining room.  This one I will decorate with left over ornaments but next year it will be my themed tree.  What theme, I don’t know but next year will be here before you know it!

And for those of you that are wondering about my third tree, I’ll share a quick story about it:

When we sold our first home 5 years ago, we stored our belongings thinking that we were going to find a new home soon enough.  We moved in with Harvey’s grandparents (they owned a duplex- and we lived on the second floor) before we knew it, we were there for a year and in that year we celebrated Christmas but since our stuff was in storage and wouldn’t fit the apartment (imagine 2 adults, 3 kids and 2 dogs in a 2 bedroom apartment!) So on  Christmas eve Ava my youngest, who was 4 at the time, started crying.  When I asked her why, she said that she was afraid that Santa was going to miss our house because we didn’t have a tree (or any Christmas decorations) so we I grabbed some paper and we DIY’ed some decorations for the home – think snow flakes, candy canes and paper chains.  I made a paper wreath and called Harvey hoping that we could get the tree out of storage, but since we couldn’t Harvey did the next best thing.  He went to Target during his work lunch and he and his co-workers walked around the seasonal section hoping to find a tree or something!  They managed to find a single white pre-lit 4 foot tree and a small set of ornaments.  That night we decorated the tree and Ava went to bed excited for Santa’s visit.  It was the best feeling the next morning when she saw the gifts under the tree!  Believing that Santa truly came.  To this day Harvey and I love telling that story and it remains one of the best Christmas memories.  It says so much about my husband, he didn’t think twice and did his best to make it happen for our girls.

Wow Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post!  If you made it this far you my friend are a Rockstar!!  I mean it!   I hope you have a truly blessed day!  See you soon!

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE – Gifts for Her

Happy Monday Guys!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend with your loved ones or sitting on the couch watching your favorite Holiday Movie!  I cannot believe we are in December!  TIME IS JUST FLYING BY!  It blows my mind how quick this season is coming up!  I mean in just 22 days it will be Christmas!  I am excited by this because it means I get to spend more time with my family and do all sorts of fun Christmas-y things!

And since I shared with you guys a Holiday Gift Guide for Him I thought I’d share a Gift Guide for Her as well.  Again these are in no particular order.. I just wanted to share some fun things with my friends to help inspire you this Holiday Season.  Enjoy:

Now to be honest I had some of these gift ideas in mind for myself but they would make a great gift for any woman in your life!

COZY OVERSIZED SWEATER –  I love me a nice cozy sweater but I hate how some are too high at the neck (I overheat easily) so I wanted to share OVERsized sweaters I would love (hint hint to the Hubs).  I really love these soft sweaters from American Eagle.  I was at the mall the other day with my daughter Alyssa and we happened to enter this store and felt them and Oh my Gosh are they soft!  I added them to my Christmas wish list as soon as I got a change 😀  I love them

BOOTIES – I love me a cute set of booties.  Pair them with your favorite jeans or leggings and a nice top and you are good to go.  This pair here from American Eagle are my definite style and I want them so bad.  Seriously.

SLIPPERS – I got these slippers for my oldest daughter a while back and she loves it!  She wears them every chance she gets.  I have to admit that when I tried on a pair myself and I thought they were so comfortable and I regret not getting myself a pair almost daily. And at $20 dollars a pair they are way nice and affordable!

CUTE MUG – I’m not a coffee drinker, but I really do love me a cute mug.  My sister in law got me (and my sisters) this Grinch mug and I love it.  So cute and festive with a dash of sass!  Although I don’t drink coffee I use my mug for my cocoa and other drinks.  So stinkin’ cute!

LEGGINGS – I love me a good pair of leggings.  When I do find a pair I like, I practically live in them.  I always get more than one pair and these here are a pair I have been wanting and I think it makes a perfect gift (for me 😜 )

OTHER GIFT IDEAS

Gift Cards
Lip Balm
Robes

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDES – Gifts for Him

Hey guys I cannot believe that Christmas season is here!  I myself don’t mind and to be honest I love this time of year!  Everyone is in the Holiday spirit, baking, decorating and doing all sorts of fun Christmas things!  So that being said, I do have times when I struggle in the gift giving department.  I have 2 teenagers, an 11 year old, my husband Harvey and of course our extended family.  I want to get my family gifts they’ll love but not go broke doing so.  Since I was working on gifts for my husband, I thought I’d share a gift list in this post to help you with the man/men in your life.  Is it me or is it so difficult to find gifts for the guys?  My husband is pretty good lately with telling me what he’d like and that helps with shopping for him but it wasn’t always that.  I did ask the hubs to help me with this gift guide and he was totally cool with it, so here they are in no particular order.

1.// iPAD – I honestly think that the apple iPad is pretty awesome and something on everyone’s wish list here at Casa de HNC!

2.//WIRELESS EARBUDS – how perfect would these wireless earbuds be.  I love mine and these make a pretty awesome gift for the teens in your life too. My husband uses his all the time.  When he’s out working on our lawn in the summer, in his garage working on our latest project  or paying out bills lol.

3.// SOUND BAR – The hubs has been subtly hinting at getting one of these bad boys for our newly renovated family room.

4.// DRONE – great gift idea for beginner hobby drone flyers.  This looks like a lot of fun and I know that my husband would be so happy to have one of these bad boys!

5.// JACKET –  Harvey loves jackets that come with lot of pockets and if your special guy is anything like mine, they will love this jacket!

6.// TOUCH SCREEN GLOVES– I’ve been eyeing these gloves for my hubby and I think this will make an awesome stocking stuffer.

7.// GOOGLE HOME – my daughter gave the Google Home mini as a Christmas gift last year and my husband loves it!  We use it all the time.  We play games, listen to music, check for weather pretty much anything you can think of.

8.// SMART WATCH – Of course smart watches are all the rage in this world of modern men and women.  I myself don’t own a smart watch (old school girl) but I do think that they are pretty great.  My husband has an android smart watch and is due for a new one.  He loves his and always uses it.  The only time he takes it off is for showers and sleep (but even then he’ll forget he has it on lol)

9.// CHARGING STATION – if your family is anything like mine, you may have several devices laying around the house.  I really like this station because it helps keep all the devices in one place.  I also like that it has short cords because I hate seeing all those long cords hanging around the tables or side of the couch.  And in today’s world, it seems like everyone has more than one device and this is a great way to charge multiple devices at one time.

10.// RAPID CAR CHARGER – as a family of five always on the go, I love the idea of using this rapid car charger for our cell phones.  I don’t want to sound like a commercial but this really is a great little charger under $20.

Deco Mesh Angel Tutorial Less than $2!! Dollar Tree DIY | Hip ‘n Creative

deco mesh angel tutorial

Hey friends I hope you’re all having a wonderful day.  Today is a crazy hectic day at Casa De HNC!  Not only are 2 of my 3 girls home from school this week, (Thanksgiving holiday) I am also hosting Thanksgiving at my home, so I’m doing a lot of prep work these next few days.  I did manage to squeeze in some time between chores to get some crafting done.  One of those crafts was this awesome Deco Mesh Angel.  I love how it came out and best of all it only cost me less than $2.00 total!  Cheap and Easy just how I like it!

For this project you will need:

  • Deco Mesh Wreath (I got mine at the Dollar Tree)
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Scissors or Wire Cutter
  • Ruler
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Ornament of your choice
  • Ribbon of your choice

So the first things I did was cut my mesh.  Since the deco mesh I used is 6″ high and 5 yards long, I cut my mesh down 12 inches each having a total of 12 pieces.  Next I proceeded to lightly tug at the opposite corners of the mesh until I had all 12 mesh pieces done.   I then wrapped the pipe cleaner as tightly as I could around the center of all 12 mesh pieces.

I then pulled down half (6) of the deco mesh to form an angel dress and tied it with another pipe cleaner about 1″ from the original tied piece.  Trim off the excess pipe cleaner piece only from your second pipe cleaner.  Next I grabbed my ornament and hot glued it to the top of the mesh to create the head piece.  Once the head was dried, I then added some ribbon to the front of the angel with some hot glue and that’s it!.  Now if this tutorial was a bit confusing I also made another video explaining what I did.
