How to REUPHOLSTER A CHAIR AND BACK CHAIR | hip ‘n creative

It has been one crazy month of getting things knocked off my list!  And I cannot believe that I finally am at a point in my life where I can get back to working on some home renovations!  I have a huge punch list of things we need to get done and I am so super stoked to be getting things underway!

On my previous post you’ll see that we made some really awesome Floating Shelves (come check them out if you haven’t done so)  I absolutely love them and have already decorated them for the Holidays.  I am in the process of making some inexpensive Decor DIYS that I’ll share with you soon but I did want to share with you my reupholstered dining room chairs!  These babies needed a makeover, badly.  I’ve had my dining room for about 12 years and it has been loved, and loved hard.  Although I did not take any before pictures (too embarrassed to share – just imagine 12 years of juice and food spills, and strange stains that appear out of nowhere) I have a pretty awesome video on my youtube channel that may inspire you to reupholster your chairs too!

Full disclosure:  I am not a professional reupholsterer so please if you decide to recreate this project do so with caution!  Some tools we used for this project is dangerous and you can hurt yourself!  With that being said come check out my video where I share a step by step instruction on how we brought life back to our chairs!

And don’t forget, if you decide to recreate this project, please share your work on instagram and tag me @hipncreative! I would love to see your work!

Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see you again soon!

3 Easy and Affordable Christmas Ornament Tutorial | Hip ‘n Creative

christmas ornamentsWhat’s up guys!  I hope your having a wonderful week so far!  Today I wanted to share with you 3 super easy, fun and affordable DIY Christmas Ornament Tutorial.  I think they are so cute and I love it so much!

Pipe Cleaner Wreath Ornament

The first Christmas Ornament is a simple, yet elegant Pipe Cleaner Wreath.  What you will need for this project:

  • 4 pipe cleaners
  • pencil
  • ribbon *optional
  • rhinestones or other embelishements *optional
  • glue gun & glue

Directions:  Grab a pipe cleaner and wind it around the pencil as tightly as you can.  Then smoosh the pipe cleaner, do this to all three stems.  Then take the 4th pipe cleaner and thread it through the coiled pipe cleaners.  Next twist the threaded pipe cleaner to make the circle of the wreath.  Now is the fun part, decorating your wreath.  You can use ribbons, rhinestones, etc.  Now glue your embelishments.

glitter ball ornament

Next is the Cute and Simple Glitter Ornament.  What you will need:

  • Ornament of your choosing
  • Glue Dots
  • Glitter

All you have to do is adhere the glue dots onto the ornament and dip on glue.  That’s it super easy right?!

Snowflake Ornament

For our final DIY ornament project we will be creating Hot Glue Snowflake.  What you will need for thei project:

  • Glue Gun and Glue
  • Snowflake patter or freehand
  • parchment paper *to keep glue from sticking

This project is the easiest and the neatest in my opinion.  All you have to do is “draw” a snowflake onto parchment paper and add glitter.  You need to be super quick about it or the glue will dry before you can add the glitter.  Another alternative is to use spray paint.  Wait for the glue to dry (a few seconds) and spray with your choice of spray paint.  That’s it.

I hope this tutorial was super helpful.  As before, I made a video tutorial on my youtube channel showing you step by step my simple how to.  If you create this project, I would love to see it.  Be sure to post it on instagram tagging me @hipncreative.  I’d love to see your awesome work!

Until soon!

DIY Studded Pumpkin Fall Decor

I love fall!  I love wearing cozy sweaters, cute boots and decorating my home for the cooler season.  I don’t know what it is about this season that just brings a dorky smile to my face!  (To be honest I love all seasons for different reasons -yes that rhymed lol) <– see dork!

Anywho I’ve been on a search to find items to decorate my home with for the fall season.  I wanted items that I would love for a long time, are super easy to make and won’t cost an arm and a leg.  I came across these orange pumpkins from the Dollar Tree and decided to buy them and see what I come up with at home. You may remember these pumpkins from a Dollar Tree Haul I did a few weeks ago.

Inspiration struck me while I was out one day and noticed a huge pumpkin with studs all over it.  I decided to give it a try and this is what I ended up with:

Not too shabby, eh?  I think they look so cute and go perfectly with my living room decor.  Below I just have them sitting on a candle stick from the Dollar Tree that I had from a few years ago.

To make your own you will need the following supplies:

  • foam pumpkins (from the dollar tree or craft store)
  • glitter
  • mod podge or school glue
  • craft paint (in color you prefer)
  • thumb tacks (i got mine from the dollar tree)
  • paint brush
  • foam brush

Instructions:

Using your foam brush paint your pumpkins and allow to dry.  You may need a few coats of paint to really whiten your pumpkin.  I did three coats, allowing for drying time in between.  It took me a total of 30 minutes for the paint to completely dry.

Next grab your mod podge (or glue) and dab a little of the glue to the stem of the pumpkin and add your glitter.  If your using mod podge, you may need to work quickly before it dries and in a ventilated area.  The smell is very strong and may get you sick.

And there you have it folks.  A nice inexpensive fall room decor.  This is a super simple craft project you can do while you’re watching TV or maybe get your kids involved!  I think they’d love it!

Until soon my friends!

Home Organization | How to Fold a Bath Towel

Hi guys!  I hope you’re all having a fabulous day.   Today I’m going to show you a quick tutorial on how I fold my bath towels. I have tried several folding and rolling methods for a while and really like the simplicity of this version.  In the future I will show you other methods of towel folding so you can try the other ways.  Hopefully you’ll find one that works for you.  Ready? Let’s do this!

On a flat surface fold both ends of the towel to the center not overlapping the towels.

Next bring both ends of your towel to the center not overlapping.

Do it again only this time you’ll fold the outer end of your towel upward towards the center (like below).

Finally fold in half again and boom!, there you have it!  A nice clean fold with no towel corners shown.

I like this method because it keeps the towels neat so when you place your towels in your linen closet or armoire, you won’t see a sloppy mess.  Nice!  Also by folding it this way I find that my towels don’t take up too much valuable real estate.  Which is another win!

There you have it!  If you have other towel folding methods you’d like to share, please leave me a comment below!  I hope you guys have an awesome day!

Budget Home Decor | DIY Vinyl Lettering on a Frame

Budget Home Decor | DIY Vinyl Lettering on a Frame via hipncreative.wordpress.com

Guys!  I’m really excited to show you this super cute, super simple DIY project I did which only took me about 2 minutes to put together.

What you’ll need:

  • vinyl transfer sheet of your choice (6″x6″ is what I used) I got mine at my local craft store on clearance for $1.00!
  • an old 8×10 frame (or you can get one at the dollar store or Goodwill)
  • gift bag, wrapping paper or scrapbook paper
  • scrap paper (optional)

Directions:
Measure and cut the wrapping paper to fit the inside of the frame (I used the glass from the frame for easy measuring).  Then place the wrapping paper inside the frame and close it back up.  Next grab your vinyl transfer sheet and center it to the glass and gently yet firmly rub it down.  Carefully peal away the wax paper but please make sure you pull in an angle, if you pull straight up the vinyl lettering may come out.

Since my vinyl lettering was black and I used a black and white chevron gift bag, I added a white scrap of paper roughly framing the vinyl lettering and taped it against the gift bag (inside the frame).  It helped the words to pop a bit, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to see them.
