DIY Moana Inspired Palm Trees

A while ago we celebrated my youngest daughters birthday.  She was turning 10 and wanted a Moana themed birthday party.  I prefer to DIY as much of my kids party decor as I can because a) it’s sometimes cheaper for me to use whatever left over products I have and b)  I’m crazy like that and like to torture myself with extra work!

I recruited my daughter to help me with this project and I have to say it was a super simple project and we had so much fun working together.  So let’s get started..

What you’ll need..

  • Bamboo skewers (Dollar Tree or Supermarket) cut in half
  • Paper towel rolls or toilet paper
  • Brown paper bags
  • tape or glue
  • Green Paper
  • 2″ foam ball (Dollar Tree or Craft store) cut in half
  • Flower Pot  (Dollar Tree)
  • rocks (Dollar tree)

Directions…

Thank you so much for joining me today.  I hope you all have a wonderful day and if you do create your own palm trees, please make sure to share your talents with me on Instagram using the hashtag #hipnreative or tag me @hipncreative so I can peep your mad skills and cheer you on!

She is now 12

This week my eldest baby turned 12.  She has grown up to quite a lovely girl.  Not only is she a great big sister, but she is also Tan’s buddy.  You should hear them talking and laughing -they have a blast together and I LOVE that!  They have such a wonderful and strong bond.  She is definitely a Daddy’s Girl. Not to say that we don’t have a strong bond but I have to say she would definitely rather hang with her Dad than with Mom 🙂 and I don’t mind at all.  Besides I have two more babies that love their Momma just as much! 😉  and still wanna hang with me, lol..

I was going to write a long story about her birth and what it meant to me but I decided to keep that between us.  You understand, right?  (Let’s just say she was my miracle baby in many ways and leave it at that).

For her birthday, we had our family come over for cake that I made, (entirely from scratch -gasp)!  Since we’re in the middle of home organization and renovation, which was stressful in itself, we decided to keep the party simple with just appetizers, cake and family.  It was actually a nice change from the over the top galas we’ve had in the past. And the way Tan and I cleaned our house, you’d never know we made any changes.  (Yes people we gots some mad cleaning skiiiillz! lol)

I did however manage to make one small decoration.  I made hanging medallions out of cardstock paper and some curling ribbon to hang.  I couldn’t help it!  I just felt like I had to do something, anything to have my home look a tad bit decorated and festive.  They were easy to do and in the future I’ll share a tutorial on how I created them. Pinky Swear! 😉

I have to say, in the end everything came out lovely and we had a wonderful time with family.

Happy Birthday to my sweet special girl.  My very first born!  We love you so much!! God Bless You

Soon…

My Etsy shop has been doing pretty well lately.  Sure, I’ve hit a few bumps on the road as far as health issues with Mom and the kiddos but thankfully all is moving forward.  Everyone with the exclusion of Mom is on the mend.

The weather hasn’t been too great either.  We had to change our vacation plans a few times since Hurricane Irene showed up where she’s not welcomed.  But what can ya do right?  All must move forward.

Any who I decided to have a give away in celebration of Jinkies Parties 100th sale on Etsy.  I’m not sure what or how but I’m thinking of going big (as big as I can afford -remember I’m just starting out).  So check back soon and we will both find out what the give away is together.~

Birthday on the Brain

Although February is the shortest month of the year, it’s also the busiest month for Tan and myself.  So far we have had two birthdays in the beginning of the month.  Our niece (from my family tree) celebrated her Sweet 16th Birthday only one day after my nephew (from Tan’s family tree) celebrated his 9th.  We were also blessed to welcome a new baby nephew (my SIL’s First :D) on Sunday- just one day shy of Valentine’s Day.  This weekend is Tan’s cousin Anthony’s birthday party.  We were invited to go and since it’s my eldest girl’s godfather, how could we refuse?  🙂  Next week will be my lovely niece’s (Tan’s second sister) 4th birthday.  It will be a very exciting day since we’ll be celebrating her special day with my three girls and their new baby cousin.  How Cute is that?!  Also this month is my beautiful girl’s 11th Birthday!  She is so excited!

She first wanted to have a sleep over with a few of her friends but then changed her mind and decided to invite her family over to help her celebrate.  We’re working on her birthday prints as well as food, decor and colors.  I think this is the last time Azul is willing to have a birthday bash.  She has told me on a few occasions that she’s ready to have a low-key birthday.  It’s a bitter-sweet thing for me 🙂 but whatever makes her happy makes me happy too! ~
